Kansas City Chiefs vann på måndagsmorgonen Super Bowl LVIII och tog därmed hem lagets tredje titel på blott fem års tid. Matchen mot San Fransisco 49ers avgjordes på övertid och slutade med resultatet 25–22. Efter matchen utsågs Chiefs-quarterbacken Patrick Mahomes till MVP, matchens viktigaste spelare. I en intervju med CBS kommenterade Mahomes betydelsen av segern:
“It means a ton. Just the adversity we dealt with this year. And to come through the guys never faltered. I just gotta give God the glory man. He challenged us to make us better, and I’m proud of my guys man this is awesome. It’s legendary.”
Efter matchen blev Mahomes flitigt jämförd med NFL-legendaren Tom Brady som ledde New England Patriots till flera Super Bowl-titlar. På frågan om detta är början på dynasti svarade han:
“Yeah, it’s the start of one. We’re not done. I know we’re gonna celebrate tonight … But we’re not done. We’ve got a young team and we’re gonna keep this thing going.”
