Uppgifter: Juice Crew-veteranen Biz Markie vårdas på sjukhus efter stroke

Juice Crew-legenden Biz Markie har i flera månader lyst med sin frånvaro både på sociala medier och sitt radioprogram “Rock The Bells”. I juli kom uppgifter om att han i flera veckor vårdats på sjukhus efter en “allvarlig sjukdom” som inte ska ha varit covid-19, utan snarare kopplat till hans typ 2-diabetes. Senare kom rykten om att han hamnat i koma.

Nu rapporterar HipHopDX att man pratat med en källa nära rapparen som menar att han fick en stroke när han vårdades på sjukhus efter diabetes-relaterade hälsoproblem.

“He’s not doing great, but it’s not as scandalous as it felt in the beginning. Short story is Biz is diabetic, he had slipped into a diabetic coma, but that has happened to him in the past and it would only last a little while. He would go to the hospital, get discharged and get his meds under control. This particular time, he had a stroke while he was in the middle of the coma”, säger källan till DX.

Även om Biz ska vara vid medvetande och kapabel att prata med sin familj ska hans hjärna tagit stryk och han har svårt att kommunicera. De senaste månaderna har han vårdats på ett rehabiliteringscenter i Washington.

Biz har som bekant haft hälsoproblem länge, men i mitten av 10-talet fick han kontroll över sin övervikt. I en intervju med ABC News 2014, berättade han varför han kände sig manad att ändra livsstil.

“I wanted to live. Since I have to be a diabetic, If I didn’t make the changes, it was going to make the diabetes worse. I’m trying to get off [the Diabetes meds]. The way you gotta do it is lose the weight. I’m off half my meds, I just got to get off the rest. They said I could lose my feet. They said I could lose body parts. A lot of things could happen.”

Biz Markies karriär tog fart på 80-talet och blev ett stort namn i samband med sin debut “Goin’ Off” 1988, som innehöll låtar som “Make The Music With Your Mouth Biz”, “Vapors”, “Pickin’ Boogers” och “Nobody Beats The Biz”. Hans största hit skulle dock bli 1989 års singel “Just A Friend”, som släpptes i samband med uppföljaren “The Biz Never Sleeps”. Hans senaste soloalbum “Weekend Warrior” släpptes 2003.
