Houston-rapparen Trae Tha Truth har länge varit en samhällsengagerad rappare, som vid flera tillfällen stått upp för sina medmänniskor. Nu har han, enligt honom själv, hjälpt till att rädda drygt 300 människor efter orkanen Ian svept in över Florida. Tillsammans med hans Relief Gang har de spenderat flera dagar och nätter med att undsätta folk som hamnat i knipa efter stormen.

“I think combined, they said with all of us, we’ve done over 300 rescues”, säger Trae till KHOU 11.

“We rescued newborns to the elderly, to disabled to everything. It’s been a hectic weekend. It’s definitely different to see big yachts turned upside down like they’re toy boats. I’ll have to say it’ll be a long time before they get back to normal.”

Inte nog med det, Trae har också teamat upp med initiativet Operation BBQ för att se till att de som påverkats av stormen får tillgång till mat.

“It’s hurricane season. What do we expect people to do when it comes our way? We’re going to expect help, or we’re going to need help. So with me being a representative of Houston, if I can go down there and extend that hand and make an impact, we may need that helping hand at another time. So sometimes you just got to pay it forward you know?”

Trae har tidigare hjälp till i hemstaden Houston under coronapandemin såväl som under vinterstormen 2021. Han startade Relief Gang i samband med orkanen Harvey 2017.
