Säga vad man vill om Macklemore, men han har aldrig varit rädd för att säga vad han tycker. Så även nu, då han tagit tydlig ställning för Palestina under de pågående våldsamheterna mellan Israel och terrorstämplade Hamas.
Under en demonstration till stöd för Palestina i Washington i lördags intog rapparen och entreprenören scenen där han pratade passionerat kring Israels hänsynslösa bombningar av Gaza, som hittills dödat över 9 700 palestinier och tvingat 70% av populationen att fly. Bombningar som kom som en reaktion på Hamas attack på civila i Israel där drygt 1 400 israeler miste livet och runt 240 personer kidnappades.
“First and foremost, this is absolutely beautiful to observe today. I didn’t expect to be on a microphone. There are thousands of people here more qualified to speak on the issue of a free Palestine than myself”, började han sitt – av allt att döma – improviserade tal.
Han fortsatte sedan:
“But I will say this. They told me to be quiet. They told me to do my research, to go back, that it’s too complex to say something, right? To be silent in this moment. In the last three weeks I’ve gone back and I’ve done some research … I’m teachable. I don’t know enough. But I know enough that this is a genocide.”
