Bad Boy-producenten Chucky Thompson är död

På måndagskvällen kom beskedet att den legendariska producenten Chucky Thompson är död. Det var Roc Nation-producenten Young Guru som först bekräftade Thompsons bortgång och beskrev honom som en mentor och vän:

“You were the kindest person the world has ever seen. You were the most gifted musician I have ever been around. You treated my like family from day one. You made a point to the labels that I had to fly to New York with you on ever session. You put me in rooms with Biggie. I will forever be in your debt and I will forever be your little brother.”

Thompsons publicist bekräftade därefter hans bortgång, för Okayplayer:

“It is with a very heavy heart that I can confirm the passing of Chucky Thompson… To anyone in his orbit, you know how generous he was with his energy, creativity and love. Both the music industry, and the world has lost a titan.”

Chucky Thompson hade en lång karriär inom musikindustrin och var tidigt på 1990-talet en viktig del av Sean “Puffy” Combs och Bad Boy Records framgångar. Han var en del av producent-teamet Hitmen och stod bland annat bakom “Big Poppa” från The Notorious B.I.G:s hyllade debutalbum “Ready To Die”. Han stod även bakom hela Mary J. Bliges Grammy-nominerade albumprojekt “My Life”, samt Nas-klassikern “One Mic” från “Stillmatic”.

Genom årens lopp producerade han otaliga artister och gjorde ett stort avtryck både som musiker och människa, att döma av reaktioner på hans bortgång via sociala medier (se Diddy och Mary J. Bliges ord nedan). Att döma av Chuckys sista inlägg på Instagram var han även involverad i lanseringen av Diddys kommande r&b-projekt “Off The Grid Vol.1”.

Dödsorsaken har inte offentliggjorts men ska ska enligt flera källor vara til följd av “covid-19 complications”.
