Det har gått 20 år sedan Run DMC-legenden Jam Master Jay sköts till döds i sin studio i Jamaica, Queens i New York. Först nu väntas hans mördare få sin dom, då rättegången inleds senare i år.

Enligt AllHipHop kommer juryprocessen, där juryn alltså utses, börja den 22 september följt av öppningsanföranden och vittnesbörd den 26 september. Förhoppningen är att covid-restriktioner inte ska störa processen, men om det skulle ske har också ett reservdatum satts till februari 2023. Rättegången väntas pågå i drygt två veckor.

Det var i augusti 2020 som två män, Ronald Washington och Karl Jordan Jr., åtalades för mordet.

“They shot him in cold blood”, sa åklagaren DuCharme under en presskonferens då.

“Our office along with our federal partners and the NYPD started working that case in the early 2000s, very soon after the murder and there were a lot of challenges that we faced right away. In fact, one of the first cases that I worked on when I was here as a prosecutor in 2008 was this very case. These gentleman and our team were able to accomplish what I was frankly not then able to accomplish.”

“It’s really through their hard work and the work of the Queens cold case detectives squad, the FBI who was with us at the outset and the ATF who had joined us along the way, really, really never gave up on this case. It was important to us then and it remains extremely to us now to bring justice to the victim, his family and his friends and the community that cared so much about those events.”

Enligt uppgifter ska Jam Master Jay ha dödats på grund av en stor kokainaffär värd 1,7 miljoner dollar. Enligt ACB7 News tänkte JMJ utesluta Washington från affären, varpå de båda männen valde att döda honom.

Händelseförloppet har tidigare fått genomlysning via en Netflix-dokumentär från 2018; “ReMastered: Who Killed Jam Master Jay?”. Huruvida dokumentären hjälpt åklagaren Seth DuCharme att få fram nya bevis är oklart.
