Hiphopduon People Under The Stairs från Los Angeles fick stor uppmärksamhet under det sena 90-talet, framförallt för sitt debutalbum “The Next Step”. Bestående av Thes One och Double K, släppte man en rad olika projekt under karriären och var bland annat en av få akter att medverka på en remix av vinjettmusiken till “The Simpsons”, för seriens 20-årsjubileumsspecial.
Men i lördags kom nyheten från L.A-kollegan Rhettmatic att Double K avlidit, 43 år gammal. Ingen dödsorsak har ännu offentliggjorts.

Duon var kända för att hålla en ganska låg profil, något som de också föredrog. Men man var omtyckta och hade djupa rötter. Under deras karriär allierade man sig bland annat med akter som Jurassic 5 och Living Legends. Double K var faktiskt från början en del av Log Cabin Crew tillsammans med sina gamla skolkamrater Murs, Eligh och Scarub – som senare skulle bilda Living Legends med The Grouch, Picasso, Luckyiam, Aesop och Sunspot Jonz.
I fjol släppte Murs “Flowers For People Under The Stairs” som en hyllning till L.A-duon och 2011 släppte Mac Miller låten “People Under The Stairs” och tog med dem som öppningsakt på sin turné. Samma år berättade Thes One för HipHopDX om upplevelsen:
“It was crazy first of all when we got the call to be involved with the tour we didn’t even hesitate we were like, ‘Hell yeah,’” because it’s a big deal for us and our career to be able to represent ourselves to a new generation of kids. But aside from that the fact that Mac and his camp are not only extremely cool, everyone in the camp is real respectful.
“I mean that’s why he’s rapping over Lord Finesse beats and my beats and other beats. He’s doing it because he’s coming from a genuine point of respect and it might get lost from the fame he’s received but the fact of the matter is the kid can rap his ass off and he truly does love Hip Hop and I didn’t feel that it was a compromise to go out with him at all.”

This was one of the first big shows Living Proof had ever played. I was such a fan of these guys in High School and I remember specifically smoking a blunt with Double K in the back of The Hawthorne Theater after our set lol
