Det var väntat att se ske, men nu har Diddy till slut frihetsberövats efter ett gripande i New York igår måndag. Enligt TMZ hålls musikmogulen fången på ett FBI-kontor på Manhattan, detta efter otaliga anklagelser om sexbrott och människohandel med sexuella ändamål. I maj i år ställdes dessa vittnen och offer framför en federal åtalsjury, vilket nu lett till gripandet.
Distriktsåklagaren för södra New York, Damian Williams, bekräftade gripandet under måndagen och menade att det gjordes på grunder av ett hemligt åtalsunderlag.
“Earlier this evening, federal agents arrested Sean Combs, based on a sealed indictment filed by the SDNY. We expect to move to unseal the indictment in the morning and will have more to say at that time”, meddelade han via X.
Diddys försvarsadvokat, Marc Agnifilo, har svarat på gripandet i ett uttalande till Complex.
“We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, loving family man, and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children, and working to uplift the Black community.”
“He is an imperfect person, but he Is not a criminal. To his credit Mr. Combs has been nothing but cooperative with this investigation and he voluntarily relocated to New York last week in anticipation of these charges. Please reserve your judgment until you have all the facts. These are the acts of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he looks forward to clearing his name in court.”
För bara en vecka sedan kom rapporter om att Diddy dömts att betala en miljard i skadestånd till en fängslad man i Detroit, som anklagat rapparen och producenten för att ha drogat och våldtagit honom. Bara dagar senare, för exakt en vecka sedan, kom ännu en anklagelse från “Making The Band”-vinnaren och Danity Kane-sångerskan Dawn Richard som menade att Diddy trakasserat och överfallit henne flera gånger genom åren hon jobbade med Diddy Dirty Money.
Hon uppgav i rätten att Diddy manipulerat henne att tro att “abuse and exploitation were required for female artists to succeed in the music industry”. Richards påstod också att hon bevittnat Diddy misshandla ex-flickvännen Cassie vid flera tillfällen. Just Cassies åtal ska ha inspirerat henne att tala ut.
“As more women courageously come forward, plaintiff has been empowered by this collective strength and now adds her voice to the growing chorus of victims bravely sharing their harrowing stories. Together, they seek justice and stand in solidarity, as the latest victims of the #Me Too movement in the music industry”, skrev Richard via sina advokater.
Cassie själv bröt som bekant tystnaden i maj, bara dagar efter en lika avslöjande som otäck övervakningsfilm dokumenterat en misshandel av Diddy på ett hotell. Innan dess hade de redan hunnit göra en uppgörelse som hållits hemlig, efter att Cassie väck åtal mot sitt ex för sexuella övergrepp och misshandel.
Mitt i allt detta har också teorin om att Diddy legat bakom mordet på 2Pac blossat upp igen. Framförallt 50 Cent och Eminem har varit högljudda kring detta och så sent som i fredags kom en ny version av låten “Fuel”, där Eminem rappar:
