Den 16:e oktober firar det legendariska skivbolaget Def Jam sitt 30-årsjubileum med en hyllningskonsert på Barclays Center i Brooklyn, New York där artister som Rick Ross, 2 Chainz, DMX, Fabolous, Foxy Brown, Jhené Aiko, Onyx, Method Man, Redman, Ashanti, Ja Rule, Warren G, EPMD, och Jeremih med flera kommer uppträda.
I en video-serie kommer Noisey under september och oktober följa de figurer som varit tongivande figurer under skivbolagets tre decennier. I första avsnittet för vi lyssna till Rick Rubin & Russell Simmons om starten 1984 då man släppte första singeln “It’s Yours” med T La Rock och Jazzy J, samt om LL Cool J och hans obevekliga arbetsmoral redan tidigt i karriären. The event, which will encompass all 30 years of Def Jam’s influence on hip-hop music and culture, will take audiences through the label’s history, from humble beginnings to what is to come in the future. The show will feature artists who are true masters of ceremony; those who evolved from crowd movers to wordsmith lyricists, and helped transform the face of a culture and give birth to hip-hop’s golden age. It will be the only night audiences can see a rare breed of pioneers across generations who have influenced millions, and continue to change the dynamics of hip-hop to this day. The event is promoted and presented by Masters of Ceremony.
