Se planerat öppningsdatum för museumet i stadsdelen Bronx.

UPDATE:

Arbetet med “The Universal Hip Hop Museum” i The Bronx, en stadsdel i NYC ofta benämnd som “the birthplace of Hip Hop”, fortskrider sedan planerana utannonserades förra hösten. Nu är det klart att legendariske rapparen Chuck D från Public Enemy blir ordförande i en rådgivande styrelse bestående av kända hiphopartister. Han kommer bidra med nätverkande till ett team som leds av grundaren Rocky Bucano och styrelseordföranden Kurtis Blow. I ett pressmeddelande säger Chuck D:

“When I knew Rocky was putting together the museum, I said we’ve been asking for this thing for years. I’m a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and I’ve worked with the Smithsonian. I look at these organized efforts and I’m saying in Hip Hop, we kinda need to grow up. Being on this board is like building to attract people’s attention and possibly funding to go further. In the social, bling bling sort of genre, hopefully my attention will make these people that claim to have that kind of money to be accountable.”

Byggstart är planerad till 2019 och öppning sker troligen under 2022.

Från och med 2022 ska hip hop-älskare från världen över kunna besöka “The Universal Hip Hop Museum”, meddelar New York City Economic Development Corporation. Ordförande i styrelsen för museumet är legendariske rapparen Kurtis Blow som även får sällskap av Ice-T och DMC (från Run DMC) med byggherren Rocky Bucano med flera. Även Big Daddy Kane, Rakim, LL Cool J och Q-Tip ska enligt uppgift vara ambassadörer för museiprojektet. Kurtis Blow säger i ett pressmeddelande:

“The Universal Hip Hop Museum may be the single most important project for the preservation of Hip Hop culture. This new cultural institution will be a great new tourism destination for NYC and the Bronx. What a great day for Hip-Hop! Our four years of hard team work has paid off. I thank God, as I am elated to know that this mecca devoted to the cultural phenomenon of Hip-Hop will preserve not only my legacy, but also the legacies of many others for the world to see.”

Nybyggnationen ska ske vid Harlem River och kommer få områdetsnamnet Bronx Point, där det även ska anläggas bostäder, biografer och utbildningsfaciliteter.

Detta museum i The Bronx är icke att förväxla med ett liknande projekt i Harlem, som utannonserades för byggnation i våras.
