LL Cool J må ha varit i gemet i drygt 40 år, men han har sannerligen inte glömt bort hur man rappar. Detta bevisade han under ett besök hos “Sway’s Universe” tidigare i veckan, dit han blivit inbjuden för att prata om Rock The Bells Festival som startar i helgen.
Mot slutet av intervjun frågar Sway försiktigt om han skulle kunna droppa 16 bars för lyssnarna, vilket legendaren går med på. Han bjuder sedan på en riktigt stadig freestyle där han leker med temat att vara “The G.O.A.T.”
“There was smoke when the mother’s water broke / The doc saw the horns / Oh my God, it’s a G.O.A.T. / The nurse cut the cord, got shocked with a million volts / Almost dropped him on the floor, but the baby started to float”, börjar han och fortsätter sedan med raderna:
“The whole world’s raving for the baby, the bell tolls / A crowd gathered ’round, throwing punches and elbows / Then his mama arose, and recited a poem/ Todd’s a Hip Hop God, fuck rock’n’roll”.
I en annan del av intervjun adresserar LL Cool J också en teori om att Biggies disslåt “Who Shot Ya?” ska ha haft en rad riktad mot Queens-rapparen. Det är journalisten Bonsu Thompson som påstått att raden “Old school, new school need to learn though”, ska ha varit riktad mot honom – något som han skrattar bort medan han berättar att han faktiskt var i studion när Biggie gjorde låten. En hyfsat trovärdig historia med andra ord.
“No, that’s not true. I’m in the studio when Biggie wrote ‘Who Shot Ya?’. Like, I was literally in the studio when he made the song. I was literally, physically in the studio with Notorious B.I.G. when he wrote ‘Who Shot Ya?’”, berättar han och fortsätter:
“I said ‘Biggie, why you smoke so much weed when you write these joints?’ He said, ‘It makes me feel like I’m in the track,’ and we just started laughing. He was doing what rappers do: ‘Old school, new School.’ He’s saying whoever want it, can get it. That’s regular … Now it’s about selling swag, and that’s okay, I’m not judging but I’m just saying, that’s 100 percent false.”
