"Nip would have been honored by this moment."

I förra veckan stod det klart att Nipsey Hussle skulle föräras med en postum stjärna på Hollywood Walk of Fame. Närvarande vid ceremonin igår måndag fanns såklart hans trogna livspartner Lauren London, som fick i uppgift att säga ett par ord i samband med utmärkelsen och vad som skulle blivit rapparens 37-årsdag.

“I wanna first start by saying Happy Birthday Hussle, and to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce thank you for acknowledging a visionary. I think I speak for the entire city of L.A. when I say that we’ve always known Hussle was destined for greatness. This moment only amplifies that for us”, började hon inte en stor publikskara.

“Nip would have been honored by this moment. I think he would want everyone to remember that you can’t get to what’s possible unless you commit to moving forward. That doesn’t mean forgetting where you come from, but requires acknowledging the reality you were born into and the power you have to change that reality for the better.

So whenever you’re in the city of angels and you see this star, I hope it encourages you to break away from whatever might be holding you back and for you to run your marathon until God says that it’s finished. Nip will forever live in our hearts. I’m grateful for the love and support the world has shown us but especially I wanna thank the city of Los Angeles. I love you, and as y’all know the marathon continues.”

Nipsey Hussle gör sällskap med bland andra Kenan Thompson, NFL-legendaren Michael Strahan, skådisen Michael B. Jordan och Black Eyes Peas som årets utvalda. Det blir också en ny hiphopstjärna på gatustråket, då bland andra Snoop Dogg, Diddy, 50 Cent, Ice Cube och DJ Khaled tidigare fått samma ära.

Neighborhood Nip sköts som bekant ihjäl utanför sin klädbutik den 31 mars 2019. I juli dömdes Eric Holder för mordet och riskerar nu livstids fängelse för dådet.

Utöver en stjärna på Hollywood Walk of Fame får Nipsey Hussle också ge namn åt en busstation i hemstaden. Nyligen stod det klart att en station vid just Nipsey Hussle Square, på busslinjen Hyde Park K Line, namnges efter rapparen. Det är ett av åtta stopp på linjen som tar resenärer till några av de äldsta områdena i Los Angeles och Inglewood.
