Det har gått mer än tio år sedan Los Angeles-rapparen ScHoolboy Q släppte sitt debutalbum på Top Dawg Ent, i samma veva som kollektivet med Kendrick Lamar fick sitt stora genombrott internationellt.

I en ny intervju berättar nu ScHoolboy Q hur mycket Kendrick Lamar betytt för hans karriär och livet i stort:

“Dot gave me so much confidence. Dot made me a rapper. Dot saved my life. I owe a lot to Dot. Kendrick and Ali, pulled me to the side [and said] you slipping, you ain’t on your game. [We’re] really about music around here…”

Han avslöjar vidare att TDE inte ville ha kvar Q, men att Kendrick satte stor tilltro för hans skapande:

“Top wanted to get rid of me [at one point]. Dot saved me. He made me his hype man. He would tell me to come to the studio all the time, ‘We in the studio, we in the studio. You got your verse ready?’”

Därefter tog karriären fart på riktigt och Q har till dags dato släppt fem fullängdsalbum.

“Next thing you know, Dre hearing my shit. And then I get my deal because of Dre really. What I’m saying is, Kendrick kept pulling me, kept pulling me and kept pulling me.”

Det har nu gått fyra år sedan förra albumet “Crash Talk” och nyligen hintade ScHoolboy Q att ny musik är på gång under hösten. I en kommentar till ett inlägg på sociala medier kommenterade han själv:

“WatcH How I come tHis year.”

Att han inte släpper nya projekt stup i kvarten, förklara Q vidare:

“When it comes to music, I don’t look at it as like, ‘Oh, you have to drop every year.’ I’m like, no, your favorite rapper has to drop every year because he needs chilli. I do what I want because I move off peace, I move off my experiences.”
