Förra veckan kom nyheten att producenten No I.D. sålt hela sin katalog av musik till företaget Hipgnosis Sounds, som specialiserat sig på rättigheter inom musik. Enligt uppgifter ska den Los Angeles-baserade producenten, med rötterna i Chicago, ha sålt sin musik för hundratals miljoner dollar. Bland musiken som omfattas av köpet noterar vi låtar med Jay-Z, Kanye West, Logic, Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, Drake, Big Sean med flera. Tidigare har även Timbaland sålt rättigheterna till sin katalog som ska omfatta “worldwide copyrights and publishing royalties”.

Nu bekräftas att företaget även rekvirerat hälften av Wu-Tang Clan-grundaren RZA:s katalog av musik. RZA säger i en kommentar:

“I wear various hats in my artistic expressions but the one that has been so deeply reflective of my life’s journey is my songwriting. I’m honored to partner up with Merck and the Hipgnosis team to usher my songs into an exciting future.”

I affärsuppgörelsen ingår Bobby Digitals solomusik, låtar av Wu-Tang Clan och andra produktioner. Merck Mercuriadis, grundare av Hipgnosis Songs Fund Limited och The Family (Music) Limited säger i ett uttalande:

“RZA and the Wu-Tang Clan did not invent hip-hop but they took it from being fun to something that represented a true reflection of what the streets, and being black in America was really like. They were and are the most authentic band and brand in Hip Hop and it all starts with RZA’s vision, his songs and his struggle, manifested in music, that could show the entire world what was really going on. He is now globally recognized as a true renaissance man of hip-hop and most would argue that he is the G.O.A.T.”

Exakt vilka låtar som ingår i avtalet för RZA är i dagsläget oklart. Förra veckan släppte RZA singeln “Fighting For Equality” med gästande Ghostface Killah. Lyssna nedan!
