Under natten gick den 62:a Grammy Awards av stapeln i Staples Center, Los Angeles – en plats som självklart fick en större och djupare mening med beskedet om basketlegenden och Lakers-ikonen Kobe Bryants bortgång bara några timmar innan galan. Flera stjärnor valde att hylla Bryant och under Nipsey Hussles hyllningsceremoni porträtterades de bådas ansikten på storbildsskärmen. Sverige-aktuella värden Alicia Keys var också en av dem som tog ton till Bryants ära.

Under kvällen tog flera hiphopakter hem priser, där bland andra just Nipsey tog hem två statyetter tillsammans med Anderson .Paak och Lizzo. Tyler, the Creator vann Best Rap Album med “IGOR” och 21 Savage och J. Cole fick pris för Best Rap Song med “a lot”. I övriga kategorier tog Beyoncé hem pris för Best Music Film, Michelle Obama för Best Spoken Word Album och Dave Chappelle för Best Comedy Album med “Sticks & Stones”.
