Beyoncé skrev samtidigt historia under galan.
“As an artist, I believe it’s my job and all of our jobs to reflect the times and it’s been such a difficult time”, sa Beyoncé när hon accepterade priset för Best R&B Performance. “So I wanted to uplift, encourage and celebrate all the beautiful Black kings and queens that continue to inspire me and inspire the whole world.”
“This is so overwhelming. I’ve been working my whole life since 9 years old and I can’t believe this happened. This is such a magical night. Thank you so much.”

Ovannämnda Megan Thee Stallion tog dessutom hem det stora priset för Best New Artist, medan H.E.R. landade vinsten i Song Of The Year med “I Can’t Breathe”. Andra noterbara vinnare inkluderar Burna Boy (Best Global Music Album), Bad Bunny (Best Latin Pop or Urban Album), Kanye West (Best Contemporary Christian Music Album) samt Kaytranada, som inte bara tog hem kategorin Best Dance Recording med “10%” utan också blev den första svarta artisten att ta hem Best Dance/Electronic Album med albumet “Bubba”.
