Klart för “Hip Hop Celebration Day” och “Hip Hop History Month”

Den amerikanska senaten har röstat igenom förslag för att fira hiphopkultur.

Inför hiphopkulturens 50-årsjubileum i augusti 2023 har den den amerikanska kongressen röstat igenom ett förslag som gör att hiphop ska lyftas politiskt, med riktade insatser framöver. Den 29 juli röstade den amerikanska senaten igenom S.Res.331 som innebär att den 11 augusti, då DJ Kool Herc arrangerade “Back To Scool Jam” år 1973, blir officiellt “Hip Hop Celebration Day”. Augusti månad benämns även vidare som “Hip Hop Celebration Month”.

Samtidigt blir november månad designerad att vara “Hip Hop History Month”, enligt senatens presstjänst. På Congress.gov står det att läsa att förslaget: “…encourages local governments in the United States to build partnerships with local hip hop entities and other members of the creative arts and music communities.”, enligt Revolt TV. Förslaget som röstades igenom lyder vidare:

“Whereas, on August 11, 1973, at a ‘‘Back To School Jam’’ organized by his sister Cindy Campbell and held at the recreation room of 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx, New York, Clive ‘‘DJ Kool Herc’’ Campbell introduced his innovative style of disk jockeying and, together with the master of ceremonies engaging the crowd with rap on the microphone while partygoers known as B-boys and B-girls danced, introduced a new style, later known as ‘‘Hip Hop’’, which combined the elements of a disk jockey (commonly known as a ‘‘DJ’’), a master of ceremonies (commonly known as an ‘‘MC’’), music, art, fashion, and dance.”
