Jay-Z och Just Blaze adresserar Kanye Wests “copy cat”-kritik

Samtidigt som Talib Kweli reagerar på jämförelse med Common.

Det är många som reagerat på Kanye Wests nya intervju med “Drink Champs”, något som inte är särskilt förvånande med tanke på den polariserande artistens sedvanliga manér. Men här är han mer konfrontationssökande än vanligt. Redan i samband med att intervjun offentliggjordes florerade ett klipp där han menade att det största misstaget han gjort var att signa Big Sean, vilket såklart fick otaliga reaktioner.

Men det var inte allt, då Ye också anklagade producenten Just Blaze för att vara en “copy cat”. De båda samarbetade som bekant för att skapa Jay-Z’s “The Blueprint”, men i intervjun påstår Ye snarare att han låg bakom det mesta varpå Blaze kopierade det han gjorde.

“He get credit for The Blueprint, and I did the first half of The Blueprint, and he just copied my half”, sa Ye till N.O.R.E. och DJ EFN på frågan om Just Blaze var hans “överman”.

“I mean look—look where I’m at today and look where he at today. So that should show you… I like the originators man. I don’t mind, like, you know, the copycats too, and—by the way—you just gotta say it like it is. … But I love you, but just know what it is.”

Jay-Z, som just nu kör en pr-turné för Netflix-filmen “The Harder They Fall”, medverkade under fredagen i en Twitter Spaces-chat där han fick frågan om Ye’s intervju med “Drink Champs”. Han medgav att han sett delar av den och menade att kommentarerna kring Blaze var “orättvisa”.

“Everyone sees things through their own lens. Some of it could be true, and some of it may not be true, but that’s the lens that you see it through, so you’re just speaking to your truth. And I think the one thing I would say … maybe the Just Blaze thing was unfair”, sa Jay.

“I don’t think anyone was copying off anyone …I think everyone created for the project. The baby was The Blueprint … it’s something we should all be proud of, and everyone should be prized for their contribution … We all had the assignment and created this one body of work … Everyone is going to have a different truth.”

Just Blaze svarade också på anklagelserna via ett ödmjukt inlägg på Instagram där han skrev:

“Respectfully, I’m happy for him and the fact that he has succeeded in the ways he wanted to, but not everyone wants to be where he is. Everyone’s definition of personal success is a bit different. I’m quite happy where I am creatively, with my family, and my life in general. We were a part of history together and I wish him well and continued success.”

En annan som fick en känga av Kanye var Talib Kweli. På den oskyldiga frågan om vem rapparen föredrog av Kweli och Chicago-kollegan Common svarade Ye den senare, men kände sig också manad att göra en utläggning kring hur mycket bättre rappare Common är.

“Definitely Common. … Common is a thousand times better rapper than Kweli. You asked me my opinion. My opinion is that everybody knows that Common [is better]. The only thing I don’t like about Common is he, like, works for the Democrats. … John Legend-ass n***as, bro.”

Han passade också på att kommentera kritiken han fått från just Kweli för att ha stöttat Donald Trump.

“Man, you can’t tell me what I’m going through in my life. … If you take the average 99 percent of people and say, ‘Do you wanna be Kweli or do you wanna be Ye?’ More people are gonna wanna be Ye, Kweli,” he said of the Black Star member. “What you talking about? So like you told that man, don’t give me no advice. Go open a book, read yourself to death”, säger han i intervjun.

Kweli svarade under fredagen i form av ett inlägg med ett klipp från dokumentären “Talib Kweli: The Movie”, där bland annat Ye pratar om rapparen.

“Kweli and Mos Def took me in when nobody else would. They were like ‘we like you’”, säger Ye bland annat i klippet. Han kan också höras säga: “[Kweli] taught me the most about being an artist. More than anybody.”
