Det verkar nu som att Beyoncé har tagit bort samplingen av Kelis hitlåt “Milkshake” från albumspåret “Energy”. “La la”-sekvensen som tidigare kunde höras drygt 1.40 in i låten hörs nu inte längre på versionerna på Spotify, TIDAL, YouTube och Apple Music.

Detta kommer efter att Kelis själv kritiserat Beyoncé och The Neptunes då hon påstått att hon var helt omedveten om att låten användes. Hon har också kallat det för stöld.

“My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance of all 3 parties involved is astounding. I heard about this the same way everyone else did. Nothing is ever as it seems, some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have everyone fooled”, skrev hon på sociala medier häromveckan.

I två efterföljande videoklipp riktade hon fokus mot framförallt Pharrell för att medvetet ha använt samplingen otillåtet. Kelis och The Neptunes har en lång och infekterad historia som sträcker sig lång bak till 00-talet, då duon stod bakom mycket av hennes musik – däribland “Milkshake”.

“There’s a lot of hypocrisy and a lot of nonsense. So we’ve got Pharrell who did an interview I think last year talking about artists rights and how how people should be able to rework their deals and artists should be getting credit for what they’ve done and all this stuff. When in reality, when I was signed to him, I had the same manager that he had and he has writing credits on my records, all my singles, and he never wrote a song, a lyric a day in his life. And yeah, that’s a problem”, menar hon.

Det har inte varit någon avslappnande upplevelse för Beyoncé att släppa albumet “Renaissance”. Två dagar innan releasen läckte en version online (varpå hon senare tackade sina fans för att ha ignorerat) och kort efter fick hon kritik för användningen av ordet “spaz”. Häromdagen valde hon att ta bort textraden innehållande ordet som av vissa uppfattades som stötande gentemot folk som lider av cerebral pares.
