Under helgen korades vinnarna på galan Soul Train Awards 2022. Föga förvånande fortsatte Beyoncé att ta hem flera priser, efter att ha gått upp i delad ledning med maken Jay-Z för flest Grammy-nomineringar tidigare denna månad.
På galan plockade sångerskan hem flest priser av alla, då hon utsågs till vinnare i kategorierna Album of the Year med “Renaissance”, Song of the Year med skivans ledsingel “Break My Soul” samt Best Collaboration för samarbetet “Make Me Say It Again, Girl” med The Isley Brothers.
Hon gick dock förlorande ur striden med Jazmine Sullivan i kategorin Best R&B/Soul Female Artist. Den manliga varianten, Best R&B/Soul Male Artist, togs hem av Chris Brown för andra gången på tre år. Övriga vinnare inkluderar Mary J. Blige som hedrades med en Certified Soul Award, Lizzo som tog hem Best Dance Performance för “About Damn Time” samt Silk Sonic som belönades i kategorin Video of the Year för “Smokin Out the Window”. Samtidigt skrev Tems historia som den första afrikanska artisten att utses till Best New Artist – en kategori som Snoh Aalegra tog hem häromåret.
Ari Lennox gick hem utan priser, trots näst flest nomineringar (sex) efter Beyoncé och Mary J. Blige med sju vardera. Hon gick dock upp på scenen under galan och framförde fan-favoriten “Waste My Time” från senaste albumet “age/sex/location”.
