Sedan 2020 driver Roc Nation sin egen skola Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment i samarbete med Long Island University. I rapmogulens hemstad Brooklyn har eleverna därmed möjligheter att utbilda sig inom musik, konstnärskap, entreprenörskap och sportverksamhet. Nu lägger man dessutom till raphistoria, när Grammy-belönade producenten Patric “9th Wonder” Douthit, ansluter till skolans personal.
“The Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment will welcome its inaugural class of exceptional students this fall who will be taught by world-renowned artists and educators, giving them practical insight and real-world, hands-on experience”, säger Long Island Universitys ordförande Kimberly R. Cline i ett uttalande.
9th Wonder kommer att agera gästprofessor och hålla i lektioner som startar till hösten. Han har tidigare lärt ut hiphophistoria vid Duke University och Harvard. Just nu jobbar han även tillsammans med Loeb Library vid Harvard för att dokumentera de 200 bästa hiphopalbumen genom tiderna.
“Music changed my life and opened doors for me in ways that I never could have imagined, so it’s only right that we impart our knowledge to help the next generation of ambitious leaders. I’m truly honored to teach at the Roc Nation School of Music, Sports & Entertainment and look forward to equipping these students with the tools to break barriers in their own lives and careers”, säger 9th Wonder.
Utmärkande för Roc Nation-skolan är också att man erbjuder 25% skolans elever ett Roc Nation Hope-stipendium, medan alla studenter tar examen skuldfria. Något som knappast hör till normen i USA:s utbildningssystem.
