Under 1990-talet var undergroundscenen drivande för hiphopscenens utveckling. Nu kommer en dokumentär som tar oss tillbaka till Los Angeles under tidsperioden 1998-2002, skapad av DJ Bonds och DJ Breeze som drev Club Elements. Från att ha gjort klubb-events gjorde de båda en resa och kom att göra spelningar på El Rey Theater och gjorde stora events för Fat Beats och Rawkus Records. DJ Bonds föklarar bakgrunden till den nysläppta dokumentären “Where We’re From: Rise of L.A. Underground Hip Hop”:

“…these recent docs on Wu-Tang and Dr Dre are dope but for that era, the underground scene doesn’t get much shine. Not long ago I found VHS Tapes in my possession that had amazing footage of artists that practically no one has seen. I was talking to Adrian Younge about the footage and he convinced me that our story should be documented.”

I dokumentären får tittaren följa artister som The Freestyle Fellowship, Jurassic 5, Planet Asia, Talib Kweli, Souls Of Mischief, The Beat Junkies och Dilated Peoples. I samband med lanseringen av dokumentären släpps även låten “Elements” av Planet Asia och DJ Revolution, lyssna nedan!
