I lördags uppträdde den ukrainska gruppen Kalush Orchestra på en förshow för Eurovision Song Contest i Amsterdam. Landets bidrag har länge ansetts som en av favoriterna att vinna musiktävlingen med sin låt “Stefania”, som blivit något av kampsång för kriget i Ukraina.

Enligt dnews.nl är gruppens mål att samla ihop pengar till att bygga upp landet efter Rysslands invasion som lämnat miljontals människor hemlösa och på flykt. Bandmedlemmen MC Killimen har blandat deltagit i landets försvar mot Ryssland och de andra i bandet har ställt upp som volontärer. Trots den nuvarande situationen hoppas gruppen kunna tävla i Eurovision i Turin i maj. En i gruppen, Oleh Psiuk, säger till holländska siten nu.nl:

“We are all now occupied by other things, because the most important thing is to help our country now. We do that as well as we can, in all kinds of different ways. I have my own organisation for volunteers and with about thirty others, we try to help others as well as possible. We look for medicines, gather food and help people who fled to the Western part of Ukraine to search for safe accommodation. One of our band members is now part of the territorial defence. We do what we can, all in our way.”
