Trots att Kendrick Lamar lämnat skivbolaget Top Dawg Ent så fortsätter bolaget att dundra ut ny musik i hög takt. Förra veckan släpptes SZA-albumet “S.O.S.” och nu kommer Black Hippy-rapparen Ab-Souls femte studioalbum “Herbert”. Förra veckan avslöjade han gästerna på skivan – där Jay-Z lyser med sin frånvaro trots intensiva rykten om gästinhopp nyligen.
På albumet gästar således Big Sean, Russ, Joey Bada$$, Jhené Aiko, SiR Punch, Zacari, Fre$h, Ambré, ALEMEDA och Lance Skiiiwalker, samt med produktion av Sounwave, DJ Premier, James Blake, Hit-Boy, Boi-1da, DJ Dahi och flera.
Inför albumreleasen besökte Ab-Soul även radiolegendaren Sway på Sirius XM för en intervju, där han kommenterade Kendrick Lamars avsked till TDE för att istället bilda det egna bolaget pGLang med Dave Free:
“I think that’s evolution, man. That’s still my brother. I don’t feel a difference. I don’t know how to [explain]. We haven’t spoke on why it happened or why he did it, but I think it’s love, I think it’s growth on his behalf. That’s what he felt like he had to do on his path, on his journey. So I’ma always support him and what he do, you know what I’m saying? But you know who the gang is.!”
Han fortsatte att beskriva hur han och Kendrick är “familj” trots allt:
“I don’t care what company he’s with or where they go, if I speak to ’em, it’ll never change. That’s the foundation. I think if you remember that, if you hold onto that, no matter how far you go, I think that’s the practice, to keep that balance. Everything is as it should be. Nothing is out of alignment, at all.”
Inför albumreleasen har Ab-Soul även besökt LA Leakers för att lägga en freestyle över instrumentalerna till två klassiska disslåtar, 2Pacs “Hit Em Up” och Biggie-låten “Who Shot Ya”. Se nedan!
