“I felt that we tried to campaign to see if we could get into the alternative jazz or ambient category. So this morning, when the album of the year category popped up, I was really, really surprised because I didn’t think that that many people even knew about it. So I’m just happy that the votes came in that way and that people were paying attention, more than anything”, sa 3 Stacks till Variety efter att ha nåtts av nyheten.
Kendrick Lamar är i fem av sina sju kategorier nominerad med Drake-dissen “Not Like Us”, däribland i kategorin Best Rap Song där han ställs mot Rapsodys “Asteroids”, “Vultures”-spåret “Carnival”, “Yeah Glo” med GloRilla samt Kendricks andra nominering i samma kategori: “Like That” med Future & Metro Boomin.
Best Rap Album står i sin tur mellan J. Coles mixtape “Might Delete Later”, “The Auditorium Vol. 1” med Common & Pete Rock, “Alligator Bites Never Heal” med Doechii, “The Death of Slim Shady” med Eminem och “We Don’t Trust You” med Future & Metro.
