Klassikeralbum kommer till streamingtjänster under 2021.
Under flera års tid har den ikoniska gruppen De La Soul fört en kamp mot skivbolaget Tommy Boy Records, för att åter få kontroll över deras tidiga diskografi av klassikeralbum. Under 2019 meddelade gruppen följande efter segdragna förhandlingar med skivbolaget som gav ut deras musik under 1980/1990-talet:
“After 30 years of profiting from our music and hard work… and after 7 long months of stalled negotiations, we are sad to say that we’ve been unable to reach an agreement and earn Tommy Boy’s respect for our music/legacy.”
Efter att Tommy Boy-etiketten tidigare i år förvärvats av bolaget Reservoir Media ändrades läget till det bättre. Plötsligt öppnades möjligheten till att tillgängliggöra rättigheterna och musiken för uppladdning till streamingtjänster. Nyheten förmedlades under helgen av musikerkollegan Talib Kweli via Instagram:
“Ladies and gentlemen I spoke to @djmaseo from the legendary @wearedelasoul today and it’s official… after years of being taken advantage by the recording industry in the worst possible ways, De La Soul now owns all the rights to their masters and is in full control of the amazing music they have created. Let’s salute Plugs 1, 2 and 3 for sticking to their guns and showing us that we can all beat the system if we come together as a community. Let’s hear it for black ownership of black art! Congratulations fellas…”
På tisdagskvällen bekräftade De La Soul via IG Live att deras klassikeralbum kommer till samtliga streamingtjänster, såsom Spotify och Apple Music, under senare delen av 2021.
