För att fira äventyrare och naturentusiaster har Timberland samarbetat med “Oklahoma Cowboys” för att debutera en ny kollektionen. Den är tänkt att vara en hyllning till afroamerikanska pionjärer som skapat en samhörighet med naturen runt omkring sig. 

“The Oklahoma Cowboys Foundation” startades för att uppmana unga afroamerikaner att följa sin nyfikenhet kring ridsport och naturen. Grundaren av organisationen Jakian Parks citeras av Hypebeast:

“It is important to reclaim space in nature because it is an integral part of our ancestry. Our ancestors were mothers and fathers of the land, so our abilities are endless from an agricultural aspect. Black explorers need to activate the skills that are already engrained within them. Black curiosity is power. The new Timberland Black Pioneer Collection celebrates our community and is inspired by the outdoors, making this authentic.”

Kollektionen har använt sig av de klassiska siluetterna från “The premium 6-inch” och “Euro Hiker” men med en adderad inspiration från Americana och African-American inspirerade detaljer. Timberlands designer Andrew Townes säger vidare:

“With roots in the outdoors but finding a home in streetwear, the sauce of the pioneer boot has helped Timberland sit in both worlds: telling an American story of early Black pioneers and to help keep telling our brand story of the Original Yellow Boot.”

Även designern Shari-Lee Whyte förklarar kollektionens utseende så här:

“We wanted the Timberland Black Pioneer Collection to celebrate Black people in outdoor spaces with the star textile; a jacquard resembling a sprawling forest at bird’s eye view and a leather that over time will become unique to the wearer on their own journey. When we look at the inside and accessories, you’ll see a topographical map print again representing the terrain, red laces to resemble outdoor hiking boots and a black sole to represent how we protect each other and hold each other up.”

Tillsammans ville Andrew Townes och Shari-Lee Whyte skapa en kollektion som hyllar det arv som afroamerikanska äventyrare lämnat efter sig. För att få kollektionen att komma ännu mer till liv så valde man att plåta kampanjen i Oklahoma, med hjälp av fotografen och grundaren av organisationen Jakian Parks. 

Förutom denna kampanj så donerar Timberland över 50 000 kr till “The Oklahoma Cowboys Foundation”. Timberlands “Black Pioneer Collection” kommer att bli tillgänglig den 25 januari 2024 på timberland.com, Timberlands butik i New York City och hos utvalda återförsäljare.
