Slutet för YZY GAP har kommit. Bara timmar efter att Kanye West meddelat att han avslutar sitt samarbete med företaget har GAP-chefer bekräftat att deras tilltänkta 10-årssamarbete avslutats i förtid. Detta i ett internt brev som New York Times fått tag på.
“While we share a vision of bringing high-quality, trend-forward, utilitarian design to all people through unique omni experiences with Yeezy Gap, how we work together to deliver this vision is not aligned. And we are deciding to wind down the partnership”, skriver företagets ordförande Mark Breitbard enligt tidningen.
Tidigare under torsdagen ska Kanyes advokatteam ha skickat ett brev till företaget där de ämnade att riva överenskommelsen. Artistens advokater hävdar att GAP begått kontraktsbrott och misslyckats med att distribuera särskild merchandise och öppna YZP Gap-butiker som man initialt planerade.
“Gap left him no choice but to terminate their agreement. Ye had diligently tried to work through these issues with Gap both directly and through counsel”, säger Ye’s advokat Nicholas Gravante Jr. till Times.
Han meddelar också att Kanye nu kommer fortskrid med sina planer att öppna återförsäljningsbutiker för Yeezy.
Partnerskapet mellan GAP och Kanye inleddes 2020 och sedan dess har man lanserat en rad plagg, däribland den blå puffjackan. Enligt New York Times kommer inte klädeslinjen Yeezy Gap Engineered by Balenciaga påverkas av det rivna kontraktet, då det ingår i ett annat avtal.
Kanye berättade mer om sitt beslut i en tv-intervju med CNBC igår torsdag, där han påstod sig ha begränsad kontroll över kollektionens priser, färger och lagersaldo.
“[They] priced my stuff at $200 and above their whole price point normally and then did the exact shirt for $20. Also, they did pop-ups and I signed on with them because in the contract they said they were gonna do stores and they just ignored us about building stores constantly”, säger han och fortsätter:
“It was very frustrating, it was very disheartening because I just put everything I had [into it]… Everyone knows I’m the leader, I’m the king. So a king can’t live in someone else’s castle. A king has to make his own castle.”
