Producenten, rapparen, saxofonisten och pianisten Terrace Martin är aktuell med albumet “Velvet Portraits” och kommer nästa vecka till Stockholm för en spelning på Fasching den 2:a november.
På nya albumet gästar Kamasi Washington, Thundercat och Robert Glasper men för hiphoplyssnaren är hans måhända mer bekant för sina samarbeten med Snoop Dogg, Talib Kweli och Dr Dre. Sist men inte minst hans bidrag till Kendrick Lamars “To Pimp A Butterfly” prisades Terrace Martin med två Grammys. Han var även i högsta grad involverad i det hyllade överraskningssläppet “untitled unmastered”.
Enligt Terrace Martins utsago arbetade han parallellt på “To Pimp A Butterfly” och det egna soloalbumet. Till Billboard sade han i våras:
“I’m always doing my own stuff, but the thing about working with Kendrick is a lot of my creative energy comes from doing my own thing, even while I’m working with him. I want to give myself the best I can, but usually what ends up happening is that Kendrick ends up hearing what I want to give myself, and says, “I want that!” But you know what? He’s the guy — that’s what you’re supposed to do. You’re supposed to give the best to the guy. Whoever’s up next, whoever has the torch, you’re supposed to give your best to them, because when they work, everything else works. If Kendrick wants something amazing, and he felt like what I did was that, he can have it. I’ll come up with another song.”
