Den 14:e november 2014 hade dramadokumentären “Rubble Kings” premiär filmfestivalen “DOC NYC” i New York. Den tar sig an ämnen som gängvåld, kriminalitet, hiphopens begynnelse och vad som tillslut ledde fram till fredsmötet i Hoe Avenue i december 1971. I dokumentären får vi bland annat se hiphop-pionjären Afrika Bambaataa och den före detta “Ghetto Brothers”-ledaren Benjamin Melendez.

Lite förvånande är att stjärnskådespelaren Jim Carrey, tillsammans med andra, står bakom produktionen. Under en frågestund på filmfestivalen i New York, uttryckte han sin stora önskan att få vara med och skapa dokumentären:

“The first time I saw the footage, I was completely blown away by this incredible thing that had happened, that no one knows about. A great movement towards peace, about really courageous people overcoming seemingly impossible odds and rising to love. Although I didn’t grow up in that situation, I can understand that idea, and I think it’s important that we all reach outside our own realms of experience and try to understand what people are going through and the things they have to overcome. It was really something I wanted to get involved with and support in any way I can.”

“Rubble Kings” finns nu tillgänglig att streama på svenska Netflix.
