Se trailer för Roc Nation-producerad fängelsedokumentär – Jay-Z och Yo Gotti medverkar

I Mississippi, USA finns en anstalt som heter Mississippi Parchman Penitentiary och den är ökänd för att vara ett fängelse med brutala levnadsförhållanden för de intagna. När det regnar svämmar celler och allmänna ytor över, det är hål i väggar och tak, belysning saknas på flera avdelningar, det är brist på hygien och i köken hittas skadedjur och mögel i maten. Det är även brist på säker sjukvård för fångarna och flera mord och självmord har inträffat de senaste åren.

I den nya dokumentären ”Exposing Parcham” har Yo Gotti och Jay-Z, tillsammans med aktivister och advokater, slagit samman för att belysa de inhumana förhållanden som äger rum på anstalten. Med dokumentären vill de skapa en förändring, uppmärksamma allmänheten och slutligen skapa ett drägligt liv för fångarna.

Både Jay-Z och Yo Gotti har sedan 2019 arbetat för att få till en förändring på anstalten. Våren 2021 stämde Jay-Z och Team ROC fängelset samt vårdgivaren Centene. Det ledde till att mer än 200 fångar fick advokater och juridisk rådgivning. Det ledde även till att USA:s justitiedepartement sammanställde en rapport som bevisade att Mississippi kontinuerligt bryter mot fångarnas rättigheter. De kunde även bevisa att fängelset bryter mot ”the Eight and Fourteenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution”. “The Eight Amendment” ska skydda invånare i USA från ”cruel and unusual punishment” och ”the Fourteenth Amendment” ska garantera varje enskild invånares rätt till ”due process” och ”equal protection”.

När nyheten om detta kom ut sa Yo Gotti:

“My heart goes out to the incarcerated men who have suffered without access to clean water, food and healthcare and the families that tragically lost loved ones in the process. I will continue to stand up for the voiceless until they receive the justice they deserve. I’m grateful for the U.S. Department of Justice’s thorough report to hold the Mississippi Department of Corrections accountable for the cruel and inhumane treatment of the incarcerated population”.

Det är Roc Nation som, tillsammans med Good Caper Content och Red Summer TV, producerar “Exposing Parchman”. I dokumentären medverkar även familjemedlemmar till några av de fångar som gått bort i fängelset.
