Se Queen Latifah, Remy Ma och MC Lyte i kommande Netflix-serie om kvinnor inom hiphop

I augusti debuterar den nya dokumentärserien “Ladies First: A Story Of Women In Hip Hop” på Netflix. Serien sänds i fyra avsnitt och ska lyfta kvinnornas roll inom hiphopkulturen, från Roxanne Shanté till Latto.

“This timely limited doc series recontextualizes the irrepressible women of hip hop and their role in the genre’s 50 years by reinserting them into the canon where they belong: at the center, from day one to present day. Each of the four installments features a parade of iconic emcees like MC Lyte, Queen Latifah, and Rah Digga, up and comers, and artists currently at the top of the charts like Latto, and Tierra Whack alongside key figures from record labels, stylists, and journalists”, skriver Netflix i ett pressmeddelande.

Pressmeddelandet och trailern för dokumentärserien kommer dagen efter att Latto blivit den första rapparen att toppa Billboards singellista i år. 2023 har också varit ett stort år för genombrottsartister som Ice Spice som släppte sin debut-EP ”Like..?” i januari och Coi Leray (som också medverkar i serien) vars nytolkning av den klassiska ”The Message”-samplingen har streamats över 330 miljoner gånger på Spotify. I “Ladies First: A Story Of Women In Hip Hop” möts de nya superstjärnorna och förgrundsfigurerna för att skapa röda trådar mellan dåtiden och nutiden.
