Den hyllade och omtalade regissören John Singleton har legat i koma efter en svår stroke i förra veckan. På måndagen beslutade Singletons familj att stänga av de livsuppehållande åtgärderna på läkarnas inrådan:
“It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off life support today. This was an agonizing decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors.”
51-åringen hade precis kommit hem från Costa Rica när han upplevde att han hade problem med sina ben. Han sökte då vård på ett sjukhus och det var även där han fick sin stroke som senare ledde till att han hamnade i koma, detta uppger TMZ.
John Singleton är mest känd för att ha regisserat 90-talsklassikern ”Boyz N The hood”. Filmen gav honom två Oscarsnomineringar för bästa regi och bästa manus. Han var vid tidpunkten den yngsta personen, samt enda afroamerikanen, som nominerats i kategorin bästa regi. Samma år regisserade han också musikvideon till Michael Jacksons låt ”Remember the Time”. Förutom dessa titlar ligger han, bland annat, också bakom “Poetic Justice” med Janet Jackson och Tupac i rollbesättningen, “Higher Learning” och på senare år tv-serien “Snowfall”. När Singleton drabbades av stroken var han mitt uppe i diverse projekt och på väg att skriva under ett viktigt kontrakt, skriver amerikanska medier.
