Premiär för sista säsongen av “Top Boy” på Netflix – med Kano och Ashley Walters i huvudroller

I somras kom nyheten att den kommande säsongen av hyllade brittiska dramaserien “Top Boy”, med Kane “Kano” Robinson och Ashley Walters i huvudroller, skulle premiärvisas tidigt i september.

I den femte säsongen totalt – och den tredje på Netflix – får vi fortsätta följa de ambitiösa langarna Dushane och Sully vars konkurrens sinsemellan kommer med allt högre insatser. Lauryn får leva med det faktum att hon dödat sin hemska partner Curtis, vars syster fortfarande är ute efter hämnd. Dushane har inte bara sitt drogimperium att oroa sig för, utan också sina pågående hälsoproblem som inte blivit bättre sedan Sully förstört hans planer på att gå i pension genom att döda den tilltänkta efterträdaren Jamie. I ett pressutskick förra året sa Walters och Robinson:

“While the journeys of Dushane and Sully have remained at the core of the show, the new characters that have entered the world of ‘Top Boy’ have become a key part of the show’s legacy, representing each new storyline in a raw, authentic way.

With all this being said, and staying true to our original goal, every story must have an ending and so season three will be our finale. A chance to come full circle and end the journey in the right way.”

I en nypublicerad intervju med GQ UK, inför premiären, säger Ashley Walters att det blir en ny verklighet utan “Top Boy” och inspelningarna som upptagit mycket tid senaste åren:

“In all honesty, it’s bittersweet. There’s a huge part of me that’s thinking, Oof, what’s gonna happen after? ’Cos you never know. That’s the thing with this job: you never know. And Top Boy’s been such an anchor for me. It’s been such a defining factor in other work-related things in my life, that I do worry sometimes about what happens when that’s not there.”

Under årens lopp har det också varit viktigt för Walters att porträttera karaktärerna på ett balanserat sätt, utan att glamorisera gatulivet för mycket:

“There’s a level of morality that goes with making a show like this. Although there are moments that seem glamorous or moments that look glossy and are gonna appeal to kids – the fast lifestyle and stuff like that – our idea has always been about keeping these characters true.”

Enligt Walters ville Netflix fortsätta serien “för evigt” – men både han och Kano sade tvärt nej och ville avsluta serien. Han säger vidare:

“[Netflix] wanted to go on forever! And Kane and I were like….personally, we can’t. We don’t think it’s the right thing to do. It may have gone on too long anyway. Not that it’s not been great and the seasons have all been great and everyone’s loved them and I’ve loved them. I like to end on a high.”

Den sista säsongen av “Top Boy” får premiär på Netflix den 7 september 2023.
