ESPN har annonserat sin nya dokumentär “The Crossover: 50 Years of Hip-Hop and Sports”, som precis som titeln antyder ämnar att hylla relationen mellan hiphop och sport. Dokumentären uppges djupdyka hiphophistorien för att sedan utforska hur genren förändrade sportkulturen, där man bland annat gav en röst åt idrottare.
I dokumentären medverkar bland andra Ice Cube, MC Lyte, Big Daddy Kane, Fab 5 Freddy, Rakim, Nikole-Hannah Jones, Michel Eric Dyson och Danyel Smith. “The Crossover” får premiär den 12 september 2023 via ESPN och blir därefter tillgänglig via ESPN+.
“Sports and Hip-Hop are two pillars of Black culture that empowered a community to be heard and celebrated against the backdrop of cultural oppression and political persecution. As the 50th anniversary of the founding of Hip-Hop is celebrated, a new ESPN special presentation examines the evolution of this defining culture and its relationship with sports, through nostalgic archives, historic moments, and original interviews from those who lived it”, går att läsa i ett pressmeddelande.
I dokumentären bidrar även den svenske producenten Erik “Cre8ion” Lidén med musik. Han skriver på Instagram:
