George Floyds liv och fruktansvärda död ska dokumenteras i en kommande biografisk film. Enligt Deadline har filmen fått titeln “Daddy Changed The World”, efter orden som hans dotter yttrade i en intervju kort efter hans död. Det är också Gianna, Floyds 10-åriga dotter, och hennes mamma Roxie Washington som ska producera filmen.

Filmprojektet ska hittills inte ha någon bekräftad regissör, men manusförfattaren Gregory R. Anderson (“Stomp The Yard”) ska vara inkopplad. Utöver att porträttera Floyds långt ifrån perfekta liv, ska filmen också gestalta det brutala polisvåld av bland andra Derek Chauvin, som ledde till hans död 2020 och de efterföljande globala demonstrationerna. Floyds upprepande ord “I can’t breathe” har sedan dess blivit en slogan för Black Lives Matter-rörelsen.

“We are excited the world will see the real, jovial, and loving George we know. This film will humanize him, embody the essence of his life, and hopefully reignite efforts to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. It’s time for justice and equality for all”, säger Washington i ett uttalande.

“We need to make changes swiftly. No other child should lose their father like Gianna did. We thank everyone who stood with us and protested. George’s legacy will live on through this film.”
